Jiyuan Steel’s 150,000-Ton High-End Forging Line Aims for 2025 Global Supply

Jiyuan Iron & Steel (JISCO) in Henan, China, is accelerating the construction of its new high-end forging line with an annual capacity of 150,000 tons. The first phase, a 2,000-ton fast-forging production line, is scheduled to commence operation by the end of December 2024. Representing a strategic investment of 310 million RMB, this project is a cornerstone of JISCO’s transition into premium special steel manufacturing. Its output is designed to meet the critical demand for key components in global high-end sectors such as marine engineering, aerospace, and advanced equipment manufacturing.

The project has progressed rapidly through efficient coordination and precise execution. “The market response has exceeded our expectations even before production begins,” stated Mr. Zhou Jicai, Vice President of JISCO. He emphasized that high-end forgings act as the “joints and backbone” of major equipment, determining safety and performance. With over 200 distributors and 2,000 direct supply enterprises already engaged, the project addresses a pressing global need for high-performance, lightweight forgings.

The project’s strength is built on three foundational pillars:

  1. Premium Material Source: The line utilizes JISCO’s self-produced high-purity electroslag steel and large round blooms, ensuring superior product toughness, fatigue resistance, and longevity from the source.
  2. Green and Sustainable Production: Achieving over 95% energy self-sufficiency through circular water systems, photovoltaic power, and by-product gas utilization, the project reduces annual operating costs by approximately 5 million RMB and minimizes its carbon footprint.
  3. Flexible and Intelligent Manufacturing: Equipped with advanced domestic fast-forging presses and a fully integrated digital control system, the facility enables flexible production runs, quick changeovers, and significantly shortened lead times to meet customized, small-batch orders.

This project exemplifies the high-level synergy within JISCO’s industrial ecosystem. As a leader in China’s special steel output, JISCO has fostered a local high-end steel processing cluster. Moving beyond domestic excellence, the project is positioned to compete in the international high-end forging supply chain.
